The beautiful Pa Dau on this site are created by Mrs. Chia Yang. Chia
lives in San Diego, California. She is the mother of 5, grandmother of 12. You will be glad to know that ALL
the grand kids are growned up already. Chia's grandchildren are
second generation Hmong Americans.
Chia has been creating and selling her Pa Dau since the mid 1970's. She started out selling to friends and families
then gradually at local swapmeets and craft shows. Over the years, her Pa Dau evolved from traditional ethnic art
to commercial wearable fashion and interior decorations. She utilizes each unique piece to create innovative fashion
and accessories. Instead of using bright red, green and blue tones that are traditionally the colors of Pa Dau
on Hmong costumes, she uses materials and colors that are wearable and has mass appeal. Her creations include jackets,
t-shirts, aprons, vests, wall hangings, table runners, tote bages, table cloths, bedspreads, wallets, and much
more.
Chia regularly sells her Pa Dau at Fairs and trade shows throughout Southern California. She vendored at the Del
Mar Fair in 1990 and at the Los Angeles County Fairplex in 1993 & 1994. Locally in San Diego, she is a regular
at San Diego State University's Leisure Craft Show, Unversity of San Diego Artisan Fair, International Friendship
Festival of El Cajon for over 15 years, and a string of Holiday Arts and Craft shows through out San Diego. Her work was
also on consignment at the United Nations Gift Shop and Mengei International Museum in Balboa Park for many years.
